Background
An experienced surgeon with passion for quality care
Dr. Janette earned his dental degree from the University of Illinois-Chicago Dental School in 1991, after a bachelor’s in physiology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He then completed a five-year, hospital-based residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Northwestern University, one of the most rigorous training pathways in the specialty.
He grew up in Oak Park, Illinois, and trained across the full breadth of the specialty during residency: facial reconstruction, orthognathic (jaw) surgery, facial trauma, anesthesia, bone grafting, and the surgical placement of dental implants. He also took part in an international cleft lip and palate exchange at the University of São Paulo in Bauru, Brazil.
Anesthesia was a required part of that residency, as it is in every accredited oral surgery program, and it shapes how he practices today: the surgeon planning your procedure is the one who manages your anesthesia, reviews your medications, and reads your scans.

Beyond the practice
Dr. Janette has called San Luis Obispo home since 2003. It’s where he practices, has raised a family, and stays part of the community. Outside the operating room he hosts continuing-education courses and the ITI Study Club, and enjoys the outdoor life of the Central Coast with his family.
